We are thrilled to announce that Sons, Daughters by Ivana Bodrožić (tr. Ellen Elias-Bursać) has won the EBRD Literature Prize 2025. This prestigious recognition comes with a €20,000 prize, which will be shared between the author and translator.
Bodrožić’s novel is a powerful exploration of queer and trans life, and a moving reminder of literature’s ability to speak against injustice with care, clarity, and force. It was praised by judge Fergal Keane as "a wonderful, intelligent, compassionate book."
Congratulating her fellow finalists (The Empusium by Olga Tokarczuk, tr. Antonia Lloyd-Jones and Forgottenness by Tanja Maljartschuk, tr. Zenia Tompkins) Ms Bodrožić said: "What makes us special are the marks we leave on others lives, seeking stories that comfort us. Stories that restore our human dignity; stories that will, one day, remain as the best of us."
