Join us for a panel discussion showcasing recent titles by Romanian authors published in English, in original or translation, in collaboration with the Romanian Cultural Institute. Waterstones King's Road on 10 March, 6:30pm GMT.

Spanning contemporary poetry, sharp experimental fiction, and a historical novel that was highly commended for the 2025 Warwick Women in Translation Prize (WWTP), the featured books offer an inviting and provocative cross-section of Romanian writing today.

Featured titles:

Pain is a Foreign Country: An Anthology of Recent Romanian Poetry, ed. Paul Doru Mugur & Claudiu Komartin (Histria Books, 2025)

Cătălina Florescu, The Brain Is the Ocean We Live In (Solis Press, 2025)

Liliana Corobca, Too Great a Sky (Seven Stories Press, 2024)

Paul Doru Mugur, Psychonautica: Short Stories (New Meridian Arts, 2022)

The discussion will be moderated by Will Evans, founder and publisher at Deep Vellum, and will bring together Monica Cure, translator of Too Great a Sky - shortlisted for the 2025 WWTP; Cătălina Florescu, author and academic; Claudiu Komartin, poet and editor; and Paul Doru Mugur, writer and anthologist. The evening will conclude with a wine reception.

Copies of all featured titles will be available for sale on the evening. Please note our event space is on the basement level of the store, accessible by stairs only.
